I remember when the office I was working at was transitioning from 8 bit to 16 bit, a university professor who was an advisor to my boss told me that at his university they were already on 128 bit systems. I couldn't wrap my head around it at the time really. But now seeing how long it has taken from 16 bit to 64 bit, I can appreciate how cool it would have been to be in a university environment and get into computing. Compared to coming to it as a hobby turned into profession.
With multi-core cpus and parallel processing will there ever be a need for 128 bits?
