    UFO attack destroys NYC !!

    Tannenbaum

    TEXT: Ernst Anschütz, 1824
    MELODIE: Volksweise

    O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum,
    wie treu sind deine Blätter!
    Du grünst nicht nur
    zur Sommerzeit,
Nein auch im Winter, wenn es schneit.
    O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum,
    wie treu sind deine Blätter!

    O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum!
    Du kannst mir sehr gefallen!
Wie oft hat nicht zur Weihnachtszeit
Ein Baum von dir mich hoch erfreut!
    O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum!
    Du kannst mir sehr gefallen!

    O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum!
    Dein Kleid will mich
    was lehren:
    Die Hoffnung und Beständigkeit
    Gibt Trost und Kraft
    zu jeder Zeit.
    O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum!
    Das soll dein Kleid
    mich lehren..

Happy New Year to you and your family, Frank, including your new baby daughter.

To me, in many ways the Internet is really good.

We can communicate with people who we otherwise would never even be aware of.

We then realize that people in every country are the same.

I'm glad if nationalistic barriers are dismantled.

Believe me, I am absolutely against US attempts at world domination - by any means, military, economic, etc.

I feel somewhat guilty that it seems in order to communicate, apparently, everyone is going to speak English.

I don't know exactly why that (English as the international language) is, but, it seems the reality.

I thought it was supposed to be, Esperanto.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Esperanto

I just looked at the Esperanto article; it seems to me that, probably, as a constructed language, it is better.

But, don't hold your breath until it is adopted as the official language of international communication.

If not Esperanto, then, do you think assembly language might be an excellent candidate? (a joke)

I guess an advantage of assembly language, would be the elimination of ambiguity, yes?

Anyway, I hope this world begins to improve for all of us.

    Dan

I think English was chosen because of aviation. With the US pioneering global commercial flight, all pilots had to speak English and probably from that it just carried over to other things... my guess at least.
