TIPS: Modeling for use in your own programs

When modeling an object in a modeling package like Blender or thinEdge, always make sure to uv map the textures to the object before exporting.

For instance, in Blender you can make the textures look correct in many situations with various mapping schemes, and when you render the object for use in Blender for stills or animations it all works fine. But exporting the textured object for use outside of Blender is a totally different matter. You need to UV wrap the textures to the faces of the object correctly and make sure UV mapping is applied before exporting to m15 format for use in your programs.

If you are just applying colors to the object and no textures, then you do not need UV map. UV mapping only comes into effect if you use textures.

    Thanks Kent,

I am sure people with Blender positive factor will find this useful.
Does this apply only to latest 2.45 ?

Petr, just the way textures work as I understand it, I think this should apply to all versions of Blender.

Mike, I am taking notes from the blender book and will compile those with shortcuts I already have and put it up when finished.

Re: TIPS: Modeling for use in your own programs

I was going to create my own blender shortcut key list as it is the way to work in blender to get the most out of it. I thought before I took on the daunting task, let me search to see if it has already been done in a good way and I hit the Jackpot.

Here are 2 links, one is graphical, really well done and the other is a text based but very complete list.
