    The Great Windows 7

Microsoft first released Windows on November 20, 1985.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Windows

Now, it is almost 26 years later, and in my opinion, it is still f-ed up.

Windows 7 is what Windows Vista should have been, is that what people said?

And, wasn't Windows 7 supposed to be all about security?

But, it seems to me that Microsoft is releasing security patches for it constantly.

And, already, all the talk is about Windows 8 - maybe it will be what Windows 7 should have been.

    I have Windows 7.

My internet connection is very very slow, only 56K.

Lately, if I connect to the internet even for just one minute, I get a surprise when I try to turn my computer off.

    I get the following message:

"Please do not power off or unplug your machine.
    Installing update 1 of 4."

Sometimes it is, "Installing update 1 of 3.".

Either way, it takes about 10 minutes for the machine to turn off.

I find it hard to believe that each time I connect to the internet for a minute or two with my 56K connection, Windows downloads 3 or 4 updates that take 10 minutes to install.

Microsoft, makers of "insanely great" software.

I would not do it but if you are bored tired about that, you can disable automatic updates and downloads from your control panel.
Just leave the option to warn you when new updates are available so you can choose.

The fact Microsoft release all those updates is just positive because your system will be updated with all recent fix.
Most of them are just few KBytes, others many Mbytes. Windows continuously try to download them if options are on.
If your connection is slow it does not mean that big updates will never been downloaded: they will be downloaded one piece every now and than. When done you will be asked to update.

All systems, all software, all OSs are full of bugs.

I hope that is what it is.
