    Re: Nao Robot

    Thanks for the link,

very nice I saw this robot model in the RoboCup, it is perfect from design, hardware and software side.
You can buy it and program separately as you need. I think the authors of the robot deserve big respect, it is years of work.

As someone posted... I would love to see them do Thriller dance like that in group form. I wonder how much they cost... I would love to have one of those!!

    Kent,

I think it is around $10 000 - $13 000 last time I checked. It is lot, but robots (generally) will get cheaper and cheaper with time.
It is still very high tech thing, and the authors know it.

    Re: Nao Robot

Definitely not in the ball park cost wise for a fun toy
I agree, soon we will see something like that at an affordable price. They already have some nice kits I have been looking at online. I don't have the space to make a work room right now to build one anyways.

    Re: Nao Robot

We have a cheaper humanoid play set at University for $1000,

it is much simpler, basically having "just" programmable all the joints + proximity sensor:
    http://www.tribotix.com/Products/Rob...id/Bioloid.htm

The $13 000 for Nao might look too much, but costs to build the custom robot we currently do have exceeded this price already, and we are not finished yet (on the other side, our robot is as big as smaller human).
But the stuff you learn in the process of designing own robot is invaluable.

    Re: Nao Robot

Did you see the Iranian robot, it looks cool. Here is a video, but here they say it is controlled by remotes, so not as cool as Asimo and others.

    Re: Nao Robot

    Thanks Kent,

didn't know this. Only robot I have seen from Iran was the one present on RoboCup, designed to seek for mines.
This one is also good - I think the ballancing is autonomous, and I am sure it is possible to switch from keyboard control to program which sends the commands.

Robots are here, finally 21st century

Yep, it is a great time. Petr, I am sure you have seen the Matrix Trilogy? Did you ever watch the animated movie that filled in gaps between the movies, The Animatrix?
There were some really interesting and neat animations in this movie. It was neat seeing the world before the Matrix and how it came to be. I also loved the one with the glitch in the matrix. Don't want to spoil it, but being a robot fan as I am, I am sure you will like this movie if you have not seen it.

    Re: Nao Robot

I will check out Animatrix in video rental,

I wanted to see it but was so flooded with other stuff I completely forgot about it.

    Thanks for the tip !
